Environmental Advisor for Angola LNG plant construction.

  • Workforce: responsible for a team of 10 specialists, and environmental performance of a construction workforce of over 2,000.

Brian’s original commission when he arrived in Angola was to assist with site selection during the FEED stage of the project. He was subsequently contracted by Chevron and then Angola LNG to work in Soyo, Northern Angola, to provide advisement for the Project Management Team on a wide range of  issues including the delivery of mitigation measures identified in the ESHIA and contract agreements with construction contractors.

Throughout his time in Angola, Brian developed management programs for various stages of construction including UXO clearance, dredging and land reclamation, pipeline construction and EPC phases. He personally performed inspections of contractor’s operations, providing specialist advice on biodiversity management, wildlife management, and marine issues. He also delivered Incident and Injury Free induction training for new staff, oversaw maintenance of air quality monitoring equipment, provided specialist input to the Emergency Response Management Team, and supported GIS work using Arcmap GIS software. In the process, he undertook specialist studies for example coastal impacts and water quality monitoring. 

The expertise that Brian brought to this position allowed him to be involved in detailed work such as the preparation of terms of reference and tender evaluation for all the pipeline construction stages, along with contract implementation and management of issues of all contract phases. Brian is recognized for having produced environmental monitoring and governance procedures that were adopted throughout the construction of the facility.
